GCSE Results 2026: Celebrating Success at Three Manchester Schools

As GCSE results are announced, we take a look at the achievements of three Manchester schools: Bridgewater School, Manchester High School for Girls and The Manchester Grammar School. Across all three, pupils have achieved impressive results, with particularly strong performances at the highest grades – as well as some individual achievements that stand out.

Bridgewater School

Bridgewater School is celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, with one third of all grades awarded at 9–7 and almost 60% at grade 6 and above. Students also surpassed their baseline targets across all measures.

The results included a 100% pass rate in GCSE Statistics for the third of the school’s Year 10 pupils who took the qualification a year early, with 78% achieving grade 6 or above.
Academic Deputy Head of the Senior School, Mr Amin, praised the students for their “sustained effort, ambition and willingness to challenge themselves”, as well as the staff and families who supported them.

The GCSE results follow Bridgewater’s A Level results last week, when 65% of grades were awarded at A*–B and 20% at A*–A, with a 100% pass rate.

Manchester High School for Girls

At Manchester High School for Girls, the average GCSE grade was 8, with well over three quarters of all grades awarded at 7–9. More than half of pupils achieved grades 7–9 in every subject.
There were perfect results in several subjects, with 100% of grades in Music, Graphics and Latin awarded at 7–9. More than 93% of Physical Education grades and over 90% of English Language grades were also at this level.

Head Mistress Mrs Helen Jeys praised pupils for their academic success as well as their resilience and determination, describing these qualities as typical of the “Manchester High spirit”.

For pupils, the achievement was about more than grades. Year 11 student Thea highlighted the supportive community at the school, while Saee, who moved from India two years ago, said she was particularly proud of her results after the support she had received from teachers.

The Manchester Grammar School

The Manchester Grammar School is celebrating another exceptional year, with 46% of all GCSE grades awarded at grade 9 and 84% at grades 7–9.

The results follow equally impressive A Level results last week, when 32% of grades were A* and 92% were A*–B.

Among the individual successes were Rohan, Noah and Ishaan, who each achieved a clean sweep of grade 9s. Rohan narrowly missed full marks in Mathematics, scoring 199 out of 200, while all three are heading into Sixth Form with ambitious subject choices.
