Another Year of GCSE Success for Manchester Pupils
Just a week after we shared the excellent A-level results from Manchester High School for Girls (MHSG) and The Manchester Grammar School (MGS), pupils at both schools are once again celebrating—this time for their exceptional GCSE achievements.
Pupils at Manchester High School for Girls achieved an impressive average grade of 8 (A), with more than three quarters of all results awarded at grades 7 to 9 (A/A*). The breadth of subject success was particularly striking, with 100% of Music grades at 8/9 (A*), 93% of Physical Education grades at 8/9, and 92% of Graphics grades at grade 9. In the core subjects, well over three quarters of all grades in Maths and the Sciences were at the highest 7–9 level, demonstrating both academic strength and STEM excellence.

Mrs Jeys, Head Mistress of MHSG, praised the Year 11 pupils for their well-rounded approach:
“I am thrilled for our fantastic Year 11 pupils. Not only do their results demonstrate their hard work and academic abilities but they have maintained their extra-curricular passions throughout their GCSE years. From fantastic sporting, musical, dancing and performing arts’ success to outstanding achievements in external competitions during the last year, our pupils demonstrate an inspirational balance in their approach to life, highlighting the importance of wellbeing and personal happiness – all so important to success in life beyond school. I am exceptionally proud of them as young people and wish them every success for the future.”
At The Manchester Grammar School, 49% of all grades were at the very highest level of 9, with 73% at either 9 or 8 (equivalent to an A*). Subject highlights included 87% of Latin, 85% of Religious Studies, 81% of Further Maths, 79% of Electronics, and 74% of Music grades awarded at the top level of 9.
These GCSE outcomes come on the heels of another stellar set of A-level results for MGS pupils last week, where 37% of all grades were A* and 93% were A*, A or B.

The School’s High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, commented:
“We are very proud of this group of pupils having achieved such outstanding results. Our boys can now approach the next exciting stage of their academic careers with real confidence. I would like to thank our dedicated staff for the work they have done to support our pupils through their GCSEs.”
Both MHSG and MGS have once again cemented their positions among the leading schools in the region—and nationally—with these outstanding results.
