Children’s Hospice Calls on Schools for Help
Francis House Children’s Hospice is looking ahead to Easter and appealing for volunteers to collect creme eggs and vendors to sell cute knitted chicks and bunnies in support of their Easter Knitted Chick Appeal.
With the help of more than 600 knitters the annual chick knit raised a staggering £95,000 in 2025 and the charity wants to surpass this in 2026.
The Easter campaign makes a big difference to the Manchester based children’s hospice. With daily running costs of more than £15,900, the charity relies on fundraising ventures like this one to continue to expand and develop its services supporting the families of children and young adults with life-limiting conditions.
The Francis House Easter Chick Appeal is a real community effort where knitters, egg collectors, chick delivery drivers, schools, nurseries and vendors step forward to help raise vital funds.

The knitted chicks filled with a small chocolate egg are sold in schools, nurseries, play groups and local venues for £2 each before the Easter holidays.
Donations of creme eggs are needed by March 1, and can be dropped off or posted to the Fundraising Office, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Parrswood Road, Didsbury M20 5NA.
Last year more than 85 schools sold crates of chicks including Gatley Primary School in Stockport, Forest Park Preparatory School in Sale, Withington Girls’ School in Manchester, Wilmslow Preparatory School in Wilmslow, and many others. Could your school help this year?
