King’s Alumna Alex Clarke has Won the ‘The Rising Star Award’
King’s alumna Alex Clarke has won the ‘The Rising Star Award’ in the 2019 British Jazz Awards.
The talented Jazz saxophonist and former King’s pupil landed the top prize in what is regarded as one of the blue-ribbon categories for British jazz aficionados. Among the top award winners this year was the legendary Courtney Pine, so Alex is in very good company.
Festival of Song Fundraiser at Manchester Cathedral
Seven schools from across Greater Manchester come together for an inter-school festival of song fundraiser at Manchester Cathedral on 4th December. All proceeds raised on the day will go to the Booth Centre, a day centre for homeless people.

For more than a hundred years Alderley Edge Festival has been a delightful event for people in Cheshire. As Maria Rushton, one of the organises of the Festival-2019 said, “There’s an element of competition but this is much more about bringing people together to share their enjoyment of performing.” A lot of local schools embraced an opportunity to join the ‘wonderful culture of music, speech and drama’ and some of the children won top awards during the festival.
