Travelling to Dubai is exciting in itself, but doing so with a pet brings its own kind of anticipation, especially when that pet is very much a part of the family. For many, leaving a much-loved animal behind while they’re abroad simply isn’t an option. Whether it’s the dog your kids love to run around the park with, or the cat who curls up beside them during bedtime stories, having your pet with you makes any place feel more like home.
If Dubai is on your horizon and your furry family member is coming too, there are a few things worth knowing in advance to make the journey easier for everyone, including the kids.
The Paperwork You’ll Need
Dubai has clear rules in place when it comes to bringing animals into the country. These aren’t just suggestions, they’re firm requirements, and missing a detail could mean delays or worse at the airport. The most important thing to sort out early is an import permit from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. It’s not difficult to apply for, but you’ll need to provide up-to-date vaccination records, especially for rabies. Dubai has excellent vets and animal care services. Whether you need grooming, boarding or a quick check-up, you’ll find professional clinics with English-speaking staff. Pet shops and supply stores are easy to find, and many offer delivery. Over time, you’ll likely meet other pet owners, and there’s a growing network of expats and locals who share tips and advice about living with animals in the city.
