Rocking the Stage at King’s

A talented cast of young performers took King’s School in Macclesfield by storm with their production of School of Rock – The Musical. Based on the beloved 2003 film starring Jack Black, the show follows Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck musician who poses as a supply teacher and transforms a class of prep school students into a high-energy rock band—proving that music, fun, and teamwork can change lives.

Every student had a moment to shine, whether acting, singing, strumming a guitar, or doing all three, helping to bring the story to life on stage. The sell-out audience packed Jackson Hall over three nights, and one attendee summed it up perfectly: “What an incredible performance from a very talented group of youngsters! The comic timing, energy, passion, and humour were infectious, and the musicianship was truly impressive. Several of them could definitely have a future in the West End. A resounding success!”

Beth Davies, in the lead role of Dewey Finn, delivered a brilliantly humorous performance, fully embodying the character’s charm and energy, keeping the audience laughing and rooting for Dewey’s wild ambitions. Hattie James, as School Principal Rosalie Mullins, wowed with a confident, show-stopping rendition of “Where Did The Rock Go?” that highlighted her vocal talent and emotional range.

Tom Heseltine brought Ned Schneebly to life, while Chloe Green, along with Carey, William, Charlie, Ellie, Camilla, Aiden, Jack, and a lively group of Year 7s known as ‘No Vacancy,’ rounded out the ensemble, each adding personality, talent, and stage presence. Behind the scenes, a band of six pupils on electric guitars, plus drummers, keyboard, and bass, kept the rhythm pulsing and perfectly complemented the on-stage action.

Together, cast and band created a vibrant, high-energy show that had the audience cheering and laughing from start to finish. Congratulations went to all the pupils and staff involved, including Mrs Scott, Head of Drama, Mr Kidd, Director of Music, Julie Browne, Stage Manager, Mr Forbes, and Mr Leah, for bringing this unforgettable performance to life.
