November Open Events – Discover the magic of Withington Girls’ School

Prospective pupils and their families are invited to discover what makes Withington Girls’ School special at two Open Events taking place on Thursday 5 November (4.30pm–6.30pm) and Saturday 7 November (10am–noon).

The events offer an opportunity for girls considering joining the Junior School, Senior School or Sixth Form to find out more, explore the facilities, meet pupils and staff and experience the magic of Withington life first-hand.

One of the UK’s leading independent girls’ schools, Withington has a long-established reputation for academic excellence, but its approach to education extends far beyond examination results.

“School should be a time of discovery, challenge and opportunity, a place where girls grow in confidence, explore what interests them and discover just how much they can achieve,” says WGS Head Mr Tom Bennett. “At Withington, we combine real academic ambition with exceptional pastoral care and an enormous range of activities outside the classroom.”

Describing the Junior School as a “happy hive of activity”, Head of Juniors, Mrs Ellie Clark adds: “We’re a small school with a big heart full of energy, enthusiasm and talent. Here in the Junior School, we want your daughter to develop a love of learning that will last throughout her educational journey and beyond.” Pupils joining the Junior School are able to benefit from the continuity of progression through to Year 13.

For pupils looking at Year 12 entry, Director of Sixth Form, Ms Elizabeth Robinson encourages girls to “become more than you imagined”. “Sixth Form is such an exciting stage. It’s a chance to study the subjects you love, embrace new opportunities and start shaping the future that’s right for you. Your next chapter is about to begin.”

Throughout the School, excellent teaching and a broad curriculum help to develop intellectual curiosity, independent thinking and a genuine enjoyment of learning, while beyond the classroom, an extensive extracurricular programme offers opportunities ranging from coding, photography and languages to music, sport and art, helping pupils discover new interests and develop confidence, creativity and leadership skills.

Community engagement is equally important across Withington’s year groups, with volunteering, fundraising and partnership initiatives encouraging girls to make a positive contribution to the wider Manchester community. And pastoral care is embedded in everyday school life, supported by Form Tutors, Heads of Year, health professionals and pupil Wellbeing Ambassadors, who ran a dedicated Wellbeing Week in School just before Half Term. This commitment was recognised with a national Wellbeing Award earlier this year.

Reflecting on the School’s wider ambitions in a recent interview published on the School’s website Mr Bennett said: “Success for me is the kind of young women who leave us. They’re confident, intellectually curious, courageous, kind, and morally grounded. They’re often activists and future leaders – people who want to contribute positively to society.”

Encouraging families to attend one of the November events, Mr Bennett adds: “Choosing the right school is a significant decision and the best way to find out whether Withington is the right place for your daughter is to come and see it for yourself. You’ll meet our pupils and teachers, explore the school, learn about our curriculum as well as our co-curricular life and really get a sense of the magic of Withington.”
