From water to steam, gas to diesel and electricity – experience the sights, thundering sounds and gut-busting smells of the Museum’s 19th Century engines and machinery as they burst into life through a series of hands-on demonstrations, workshops, events, games and shows for all the family.

Avro-Triplane | Flying Forces Show at Museum of Science and IndustryTake part in an Atlantic Adventure in the Museum’s brand new Flying Forces Show. This fun, free and interactive performance explores how local hero Jack Alcock harnessed power to overcome the forces of nature, in his record-breaking transatlantic flight.

 

Easter Balloon Racing |The Rainhill Trials Railway Race Game at MOSIJoin in the Rainhill Trials railway race game with your very own homemade locomotive. Attach a balloon and use wind power to race them down the track in MOSI’s very own Power Hall. Put science to the test to find out who will win and possibly change history?

 

Revolution Manchester ShowGet your dancing shoes and ear plugs at the ready to watch The Revolution Manchester Show. Join our hands on and lively team of Explainers as they demonstrate how science and industry came together in Manchester and powered the world forward, shaping our lives today.

Manchester Mills DemonstrationVisit the Textiles Gallery and discover what a Flying Shuttle and the Devil-Hole have to do with Manchester and helping to shape an industry that built this city. Watch the thunderous demonstrations of historical mill machinery that used to power, spring, bob and weave cotton into cloth.

Natalie Ireland, Head of Programmes at the Museum of Science and Industry said: “Power: From Muscle to Machine is a fantastic opportunity for all ages to really understand how science and industry has changed dramatically over the years and how it has powered this city forward. From our fun science show and creative workshops to our mill, engine and power hall demonstrations, there is something here for all the family to enjoy, do and discover.”

The Museum of Science & Industry tells the story of where science met industry and the modern world began. Manchester was one of the first global, industrial cities, and its epic rise, decline and resurgence has been echoed in countless other cities around the world. From textiles to computers, the objects and documents held in MOSI’s collection tell stories of everyday life over the last 200 years, from light bulbs to locomotives.
