The Innovation Race: Manchester’s Makers Join the First World War

      28 March – 17 April 2016

June 1915. Britain is facing a munitions crisis.
Lloyd George calls for help. Manchester’s makers respond.
      The race is on.

Marking the 100th anniversary of the Ministry of Munitions, The Innovation Race: Manchester’s Maker’s Join the First World War unearths hidden stories of innovation, invention and ingenuity.

From shell production and sprinkler systems, to Ferranti fuzes and aerial cameras, Manchester’s makers waged war from the shop floor and turned their factories into weapons of mass production.

Visit our WWI theatre jukebox, design your own defence technology and find out why British victory could have been determined by a seagull.
