From Grange to Oxford – Pupils Head to National Science Finals

There’s excitement buzzing through The Grange Junior School after a team of pupils secured a place in the Science Quiz Club National Finals — a first in the school’s history.

Competing against more than 200 schools from across the country, the team impressed from the start, finishing 10th in the opening round to progress to the semi-finals. They continued their strong performance there, placing 9th out of 50 schools and booking their place in the prestigious finals at the University of Oxford this June.

Gayle Ruddick, the Head of Science The Grange Junior School comments, “Following strict competition rules, the quizzes are conducted live with absolutely no teacher assistance allowed, meaning every answer relies entirely on the pupils’ own understanding and quick thinking. Huge congratulations to the team.”

Made up of two Year 5 and two Year 6 pupils, the team has shown outstanding scientific knowledge, teamwork and calm thinking under pressure.

Teachers and parents have praised the group’s dedication and enthusiasm, describing their achievement as a reflection of the school’s commitment to encouraging curiosity, confidence and academic excellence.

The whole school community will now be cheering them on as they head to Oxford for the national finals this summer.
