Local Charity Floral Sale Returns to Support Vulnerable Families in Greater Manchester
A much-loved community event is making its return this spring, as Mellor Country House prepares to welcome visitors to its annual floral fundraising sale.
Taking place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 May (10am–4pm), the event will once again transform the grounds of the historic Edwardian property into a vibrant showcase of seasonal plants, colourful blooms and handcrafted hanging baskets. Visitors can expect affordable prices, with plants starting from just £2–£3 and larger arrangements, including hanging baskets, from £15.
Alongside the plant sale, guests can enjoy a selection of refreshments, including cream teas, homemade bakes and freshly prepared bacon sandwiches – a popular feature that has become a staple of the weekend.
Set within three acres of gardens and woodland in the village of Mellor, on the edge of Greater Manchester and the High Peak, Mellor Country House has long provided respite breaks for individuals and families facing challenging circumstances. The charity supports people from across Stockport, Manchester and Salford, offering short self-catering stays designed to give carers, elderly visitors and disadvantaged families a chance to rest and recharge.

The annual sale plays a key role in funding this work. Volunteer Katie Clark explained that ongoing fundraising is essential to maintaining the charity’s services during increasingly difficult times.
She said: “The plant sale is a vital part of our fundraising efforts. It allows us to continue offering affordable breaks to those who may otherwise never have the opportunity to step away from the pressures of everyday life.
“For some of our guests, that time away has been truly life-changing. Without continued support from the community, it would be much harder for us to keep providing that level of care.”
Those interested in attending can also pre-order plants online ahead of the event, with orders open until 11 May via the charity’s website.
Mellor Country House is also encouraging local residents to get involved beyond the event, with opportunities to volunteer as part of its “Friends” group. Volunteers help maintain the grounds and support the upkeep of the property throughout the year.
