June

June signals the arrival of the long (hopefully warm) summer, so get adventurous and get outside for some family fun! If you fancy a sun-soaked park day, there’s always something on at Tatton Park or Lyme Park – or why not get sciency at Jodrell Bank? If the weather isn’t playing ball, The Lowry will come to the rescue with a plethora of inspiring activities and shows. Whatever your tastes, there are plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained in June.

 
1 June
The Wizarding Adventure
It’s time to sign up to our spellbinding school of sorcery as you take a wacky and wonderful whistle stop tour of the Wizard Academy and learn to become a master of mystery and magic.
During this magical interactive experience you’ll take lessons in the basics of broomsticks, practice your potion making, be instructed in incantations and learn to tattle and talk with a tawny owl.
For students age 5 – 12 recommended, but anyone is welcome to enrol.
What’s included:
– One return trip from Bury to Rawtenstall hauled by a genuine steam (and spell) powered train
– An approximately two-hour wizarding experience with the region’s most pre-eminent enchanters.
– Wizard themed activities and plenty of photo opportunities.
– Make your day complete with a trip to Bury Transport Museum, sited just across the road from Bury Bolton Street Station.
Food and drink will be available to purchase from our café on Platform 3/4 at Bury Bolton Street Station and from the Rawtenstall Buffet.

The Dino Adventure
Have you ever wanted to pet a pachycephalosaurus, get together with a Triceratops or tickle a T-Rex under the chin?
Now’s your chance. Come on an adventure of Jurassic proportions to The East Lancashire Railway and get the opportunity to get up close and personal with their baby dinosaurs.
You’ll get to learn all about these adorable dinosaurs from our expert handlers in this fully interactive experience that is both educational and entertaining for all the family. Come along an earn your diploma in dino know how and begin your training as a palaeontologist of the future.
What’s included:
– One return trip from Bury to Rawtenstall hauled by a dino-proofed steam train.
– An approximately two hour dinosaur experience with expert rex wranglers and triceratops tamers.
– Dinosaur themed activities and plenty of photo opportunities.

The Tatton Park Classic & Performance Car Spectacular
One of Britain’s most popular classic car shows returns to Tatton Park again this summer, celebrating the golden age of motoring, from BMWs to Jaguars. It showcases loyal car clubs who exhibit their exceptional vehicles and are always happy to talk about the experiences in the community and with restoring and maintaining their vehicles. Enthusiasts can view some of the finest cars ever made, with more than 2000 classics on site. There is something for everyone!
Tickets: adults is £12 (£10 in advance) and children under 16 go free.

Didsbury Festial 2023
This year the overall theme of Didsbury Festival parade is King’s Cronation.
The Didsbury Festival’s procession starts at 11am and follows a regular route from St. Catherine’s RC Primary School on School Lane, down the length of School Lane, then onto Wilmslow Road and through the Wilmslow Road entrance and onto the main field of Didsbury Park. The procession will include children from local schools and groups.
The festival includes dozens of stalls selling all manner of things including lots of options for food. As usual there will also be a Fun Fair, a Dog Show, Tug of War along with Dancing, Live Music and Zumba to take part in.

Monthly music and sensory play sessions for babies and toddlers.
For parents with both baby and toddler, babies may attend toddler sessions. The same does not apply in reverse, as toddlers tend to be more boisterous and we want to keep the baby sessions more relaxed. This month’s theme is The Carnival of The Animals.

      Join us for the biggest Tractor Fest in the North. A two-day festival showcasing thousands of vintage tractors, cars, lorries, stationary engines and motorcycles.

      This year’s stars are Ferguson and Massey Harris Tractors, featuring the UK’s biggest gathering of the popular Ferguson Tractors. Among the 1,500 exhibits there will also be Hot Bulb Engines and Touring Cars.

      Back by popular demand will be the MARCH OF THE TRACTORS – a parade of tractors from Newby Hall to Ripon’s historic market square.

      The event will also feature an array of fun, family activities including vintage tractor pulling, free tractor and trailer rides, interactive exhibits and working machinery, as well as food outlets and trade stands.

      £10 adults, £9 seniors, £8 children, under 4’s go free – includes entry to the garden and adventure garden.
