Time for Elevenses: David Walliams Entertains Kids for Free

Since we were first told to stay at home, entertainers and educators from all over the country have been (virtually!) coming together to help parents make sure that their children are still learning and having fun, albeit from the comfort of their own living rooms. The latest to join this list of long-distance providers is author, performer, and all-round giggle-maker David Walliams. In a nostalgic nod to another era, he is providing a daily treat to the nation’s children, and parents, in the form of ‘Elevenses’ – a free story-telling being released at 11am every day until 23rd April and can be enjoyed at any time during the day.

Each day for the next month, the comedian will read from his popular collection ‘World’s Worst Children’, which features five beastly boys and five gruesome girls. With an actor delivering them, we can expect the readings to be nothing short of dramatically hilarious, and they are also guaranteed to be tinged with the pure delight in comedy which has become Walliams’ signature.

For those already familiar with his stories for children, tuning in to listen is sure to become a much-loved tradition – we all need a little comic relief these days! And for families who are new to Walliams’ work, this is the perfect introduction. If you find yourselves enjoying these fun tales, there is plenty more to discover. His work has been adapted for both the stage and the screen, and he even makes a personal appearance in the TV version of his ‘The Boy in the Dress’, which is now a major musical too!

And if all that isn’t enough, then there is a treasure trove of fun free activities waiting on David Walliams’ website. From quizzes, to drawing guides, to arts and crafts resources, there’s plenty to keep kids busy, and get them thinking creatively! There are also Downloadable resource packs to go alongside many of his books, just waiting to be used to inspire imaginations and get your children really involved with reading.

Staying in while the weather gradually gets sunnier and the days get longer might not seem like the most appealing prospect for any of us, especially kids, but with David Walliams to provide some laughs, the time is sure to fly by!
