King’s School Pupils Collect Christmas Presents for Disadvantage Children
King’s School Macclesfield pupils responded immediately to an appeal from the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust for extra Christmas presents. In less than a week, Senior pupils in King’s Girls’ Division collected 272 selection boxes to be handed out at CAFT’s rip-roaring Christmas parties for disadvantaged children.
Over six weeks of the festive period, the 10-acre adventure farm at Millington near Altrincham will host parties for 1200 children who might otherwise not have any yuletide celebrations.
Collecting the gifts from King’s was CAFT’s community fundraiser Rob Bashforth who said: “The Adventure Farm was set up in 1985 and provides adventure holidays for some 3,000 children from across the North West every year. Even in this day and age, one in four children live below the poverty line but we don’t just help those whose families can’t afford holidays and treats for their children, but also for children with disabilities and life-limiting conditions.”
“We are wonderfully supported by schools from across region and the gifts from King’s pupils will go a long way to making one of our Christmas parties an extra special event.”
It was King’s Design & Technology Teacher, Gareth Steele, who decided to launch the school appeal. He said: “As a school, we all recognise how important it is that our pupils appreciate their own good fortune, particularly at this time of the year, and we make a special effort during the run-up to Christmas to consider the needs of others and play our part in supporting our wider community.”
Pupil Charlotte Warren, 15, who is a School House Captain and helped organise the collection, said: “We all think the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust is a very special charity and the selection boxes came flooding in to help fellow children at this time of year.”
