A Day At The Beech
Summer’s on the horizon, and you know what that means – there should be plenty of family outings to enjoy. While all outings can be fun, there’s something extra special about a day at the beach. While you can enjoy the woods and other outdoor areas all year-round, the beach really only comes into play during the summer months.
Yet, while the beach can provide an awesome day out with the family, it’s not guaranteed. With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of some of the essentials that you’ll need to ensure it’s a day that lives long in the memory for all the right reasons.
An Appropriate Beach
While they’re not as esteemed as their European counterparts, the UK does have some pretty amazing beaches that are very much worth visiting. Not all of them are completely family-friendly, though. The right beach for a family outing is one that’s easy to get to, picturesque, and generally not overly secluded.
For one thing, popular beaches are safer since they usually have lifeguards, which is important if you’re planning to swim. Plus, popular beaches just make getting snacks, finding places to eat, and all-around managing the day more straightforward.
Sun Protection
Ideally, it’ll be a warm and sunny day when you decide to go to the beach. But keep in mind that while the sun is enjoyable, it also poses a danger. Taking a sun umbrella and sun lotion is essential for preventing sunburn. Of course, getting your child to stay under a sun umbrella when they get out of the sea is probably not realistic. Buying a waterproof changing robe for your child is an effective way to keep their skin protected from the sunshine, and it can also be used to keep them warm if the sun disappears behind the clouds. Finally, be aware that a breezy wind can make the temperature feel colder than it really is, and the sun’s rays will still have the capacity to cause damage even if you’re feeling a little chilly!
Comfort Touches
A day at the beach can sound like a lot of fun, but it can end up being slightly frustrating if you haven’t thought ahead to ensure it’s as comfortable as can be. There’s only so long you can lie on a towel before you wish that you’d brought a chair with you. So here’s our advice: look at incorporating a few comfort touches into your day out. This can include a couple of deck chairs, an inflatable pillow for when lying down, and a cooler box for your snacks and drinks.
Fun and Games
Finally, don’t forget some fun games! The beach is fun anyway, but it’s extra fun when you have some activities with you. These can include things like a bat and ball set, inflatable swimming accessories, frisbees, and a snorkel and mask. Throw in a good book in your beach bag, and you’ll have everything you need to spend many happy hours on the sand.
