Tonies: Children’s Speaker and Audio Stories

One of the latest products to hit the shelves of our children’s Toy Shop in Didsbury, Manchester is the amazing Toniebox speaker and audio story range. This is fantastic new way to listen to stories and songs – allowing you to combine book characters with the speaker system to listen to your favourite stories.

The system consists of a Toniebox which is the speaker – it’s easy to use and toddler proof, so even very young children can be given it at night time to listen to a story on to help them drop off to sleep, leaving you to reclaim your phone or laptop!

They can be charged up in advance and will then have several hours of charge on them so you don’t need to worry about children grabbing wires or the unit running out of charge midway through a story at bedtime.

The stories are told via the Tonies. These are characters that are about 7cm high and which are magnetic so will sit on the Toniebox. There are two types of Tonies – Character Tonies which play specific stories, story collections, or song collections and Creative Tonies.

Creative Tonies allow you and your family to record your own stories or songs. Because the recording of the content onto the Creative Tonies is done via a phone app, this means that parents working away from home, or grandparents on the other side of the world, can read a bedtime story, or record a verbal message which is then uploaded to the cloud, where it can be plucked like magic by the Toniebox owner and downloaded, allowing loved ones to keep in touch and helping to create bonds and special memories. Each Toniebox comes with one free Creative Tonie.

Character Tonies are different – they come with pre-recorded content on them and are accurate representations of the stories they contain, making them lovely little collectable toys in their own right.

Character Tonies can be purchased separately and are £14.99. The Character Tonies currently include a range of Julia Donaldson characters, such as The Gruffalo, Zog and Stick Man. There are also a number of traditional story characters, such as Little Red Riding Hood, Peter Pan and Rapunzel, and these contain five different stories with a running time of approximately 50 minutes. There are also Song Collection characters, for example the Drumming Pig’s Animal Songs and Fox and Owl’s Bedtime Stories and Lullabies – these include twenty different songs, again with a running time of approximately 50 minutes. Last but not least, a new product, Disney Tonies, coming on the market just in time for Christmas.

How does it all work?
The Toniebox instantly recognises who’s standing on top which unlocks the audio files from the magical Toniecloud. The story will begin once the audio content has been completely downloaded. It doesn’t require a Wi-Fi connection, making these ideal for car journeys and holidays as well as home.

New story characters are being planned and released during 2019 and 2020 so you can keep adding to your collection.

Tonieboxes are £69.95 and this includes a Creative Tonie for you to record your own content, whilst Character Tonies are £14.99. Ideal for birthdays, Christmas or christening gifts, we’re predicting that Santa will be delivering lots of these this year.
