Altrincham to be Painted Pink for Breast Cancer Charity

Local businesses, schools and community groups will be joining forces to transform Altrincham into a sea of pink, in aid of Manchester-based charity Prevent Breast Cancer.

The event, which will run from 8 to 15 March, will see local shops, restaurants, bars and schools hold pink-themed events and activities throughout the week. All proceeds from the fundraisers will go directly to Prevent Breast Cancer, the only UK charity dedicated to the prediction and prevention of the disease.

Paint Altrincham Pink is a part of the charity’s Paint Your Town Pink campaign, which has previously seen communities in towns such as Cheadle Hulme, Gatley and Chorlton rally together to add a splash of pink to the local area.

This year, events include a fashion and fizz night at Laundry B, a South Manchester Business Association pink networking event and a ladies evening at Betty and Belle. Manchester Storm will also be holding a Pink the Rink match as they take on Coventry Blaize. Local schools – Altrincham Grammar For Boys and Altrincham Grammar For Girls – will both be hosting a pink week in aid of the charity.

Nikki Barraclough, executive director at Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “This is the 3rd year of Paint Altrincham Pink and it’s always extremely successful, thanks to the efforts of business owners and groups in the local area who take part, as well as people in the area who come to support them. Last year, Paint Altrincham Pink raised £15,000 for Prevent Breast Cancer, which was an amazing achievement.

The event is a great way to not only bring the community together, but to reach new and existing supporters about the incredible work that the charity does.

Based in the Nightingale Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, Prevent Breast Cancer funds ground-breaking research into four key areas: gene research, early detection and screening, preventative drugs and diet and lifestyle.
