Summer Holidays with Mums&Dads

Issue 65 of Mums and Dads family magazine, summer 2019

Word of the Season: Education

This might come as a bit of a shock to our readers. Education? The word of the Summer Season? But it’s the holidays! Isn’t the whole point of the summer holidays to take a break from education? Well, education can come in a variety of guises. It might be the school holidays, but that doesn’t mean that some education shouldn’t be taking place. In this issue, we’ve got a lot that you can learn. From tips and tricks for making your holidays abroad smoother , to advice on a calm delivery for those among you expecting a little bundle of joy this summer, to an insider’s information on travelling across the pond.

Not only is the summer a time when more informal education can still take place, it’s also very often decision-making time as regards the more formal types of education which will recommence in September. Thinking about high schools? Why not turn to our ‘Ask the Head’ section for an insight into the headteacher of a popular school in the area. Musing over extra-curriculars? Then take a look at why Noodle Performing Arts’ Cheshire director Cat Allen thinks drama can be so important.

So, let’s rethink the notion of an ‘education-free’ summer. Let’s believe the learned men of Wikipedia, when they say that any experience that has an effect on the way we think, feel or act may be considered educational. And let’s all keep learning!
