Manchester Schools Celebrate Outstanding A-Level Results

Two of Manchester’s leading independent schools are proudly celebrating exceptional A-level results, with students achieving some of the highest grades in the country.

At The Manchester Grammar School, Sixth Form pupils enjoyed another year of outstanding results. An impressive 37% of all grades were at the highest A* level, 73% were graded A*–A, and 93% were A*–B. Among the standout achievements, 42 boys gained three or more A* grades and 114 secured at least three A grades.

Offers from Oxford and Cambridge were received by 32 students, while others will be heading to leading Russell Group universities including Imperial, UCL, LSE, Durham, Warwick, York, King’s College London, Manchester, Nottingham, and Leeds. Forty-one boys received offers to study Medicine or Dentistry.

The High Master, Dr Martin Boulton, said, “This year’s results place The Manchester Grammar School in a very select number of schools nationally. I am absolutely delighted that the hard work and dedication of the pupils has been rewarded with excellent grades and that this will enable them to move on to study a diverse range of courses at leading universities. I would like to wish them every success as they take their next exciting steps in their academic journeys.”

At Manchester High School for Girls, departing Senior Sixth students once again did themselves – and the School – proud. Well over half of all grades achieved were A* and A, with a remarkable 86% of grades at the prestigious “gold standard” A* to B. Several departments saw every student secure top grades: all pupils studying Graphics, Classical Civilisation, Fine Art, German, Music and Latin achieved A*–A, while those taking Computing, Drama, English Language, Geography, Further Maths, Psychology, and Religious Studies all earned at least A*–B. In total, students in 13 subjects achieved exclusively A*–B grades.

Medicine remained a popular and successful pathway, with eight students set to begin at the most prestigious medical schools next month, while others achieved remarkable success in a range of other STEM fields, heading to esteemed Russell Group universities such as Oxbridge, Durham, Warwick, Imperial College London and King’s College London to study disciplines including Natural Science, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

Head Mistress, Mrs Claire Hewitt, said, “We are immensely proud of all our Senior Sixth students for their fantastic achievements in this year’s A-level examinations. The results are a testament to their hard work, determination and resilience, and we are delighted to see them take the next step in their educational journey with such well-deserved success. We wish them every happiness and success for the future.”

Both schools highlighted the hard work, commitment, and academic excellence of their students, marking this year’s results day as another proud moment in Manchester’s educational success story.
