Wilmslow Prep Celebrates Success at Alderley Edge Festival
Pupils at Wilmslow Preparatory School are celebrating an outstanding set of achievements following their success at the 108th Alderley Edge Festival, a long-established event that has championed excellence in music, speech and drama for more than a century.
The School’s talented pupils impressed judges across both the Speech & Drama and Music categories, delivering confident performances and securing an exceptional number of top placings.
In Speech & Drama, pupils competed in 12 classes and achieved 16 top-three finishes, while in Music, 14 entries across six classes resulted in nine pupils gaining 1st, 2nd or 3rd place awards, including two first-place honours. Reception children also took part in a non-competitive class, giving the School’s youngest performers valuable experience of appearing on stage in front of an audience.
Two of the School’s young musicians were further recognised with invitations to perform at the prestigious Gala Finale Concert. One talented pianist opened the event with confidence and composure, while another pupil captivated the audience with a beautiful vocal performance later in the programme. The concert concluded with a performance from a former pupil, who is now continuing their musical journey studying singing at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Headteacher Bradley Lavagna-Slater said the School was “incredibly proud” of all the children who took part in the festival.
“Their enthusiasm, dedication and courage to perform on stage were evident throughout,” he said. “Events like this not only celebrate talent, but also help to build confidence and resilience that will benefit pupils far beyond the classroom.”
Public performance opportunities remain an important part of life at the School, helping to nurture confidence, creativity and communication skills, with this year’s festival proving to be a wonderful celebration of the performing arts.
