Maths Puzzle for Train Enthusiasts

The Brain Train is a really great addition to the games cupboard in any home.

We bought it to take on holiday to Wales, as with a very full car and roof box (it’s amazing how much stuff you need for two tiny people for a week away) we had to choose games that don’t take up a lot of space, and the Brain Train ticked the box. My daughter had argued about bringing her entire train set, so to counter this we found the Brain Train as an excellent compromise – no need to schlep a full train set.

Box cover of The Brain Train puzzle gameIt comes in a very neat, tidy box and the 12 plastic pieces with drawn on track and trees etc can be constructed in a variety of ways to create different lengths of track. The ultimate task is to construct it correctly by solving the 40 maths puzzles which help you work out what goes where (the clear and concise instructions were helpful). Then the little wind up train goes whizzing round any track configuration and everyone – from our new train-enthusiast 18 month old son to his 60+ train enthusiast grandad, had a turn and truly enjoyed watching it go!

Although on the box it says suitable for children aged 4+ , my daughter (age 4) was not too bothered by solving the maths puzzles yet (her counting is great but anything beyond that is still for school to tackle!). However, she got just as much pleasure from it by assembling pieces based on visuals and working out where the train would loop round. I’m sure once she starts school and gets into more educational puzzle logic activities it will be great for that and to develop her numeracy skills, perception and cognition skills. As a bonus, the game kept her occupied for ages (and even occupied our ‘won’t sit still’ toddler for a good 3 minutes!)

Brain Train puzzle pieces and a toy trainAnother plus is that the Brain Train is not too pricey so we thought it would be good as a stocking filler at Christmas or a last minute gift for a birthday party.

So all in all, a solid addition to the family’s activities and I highly recommend others to try it. Get on board!

The Brain Train from The Happy Puzzle Company includes 12 sections of track, wind-up train and instructions. Ages 4+ Price: £14.99.

its great as it rewards children who solve problems, but it still works if children get it wrong so no dissapointment
