Little Beanz: New Multi-Sports Club for Toddlers

Little Beanz LogoAs a new mum living in Gatley, Stockport, I am always looking for fun family activities. So when I heard about Little Beanz Sports Club, aimed specifically at very young ones, I got my already-sprightly six month old daughter straight on the waiting list and into a taster session.

The Little Beanz multi-sports club offers term-time morning sports sessions for 2-4 year old children. The coaches build their 45-minute sessions around the 5 principles of multisport – competence, confidence, connections, character and caring. Each session focuses on one sport, but the skills taught apply to any sport – throwing, catching, running, balance, decision making and object manipulation, all building fine and gross motor skills. At the end of each session the children talk about what they enjoyed and get a certificate.

Toddler session at Little Beanz Sports ClubThe owners and coaches of the new venue, Gaz and Holly, both have a level 2 certificate in coaching multi-skills development, numerus other sports certificates and years of experience working with kids. I chatted to them about why they decided to start up Little Beanz:

Everyone knows that sport is good for health, self esteem, academic achievements, and if started early, provides children with a lot of lifelong skills. We feel though that there is a real lack of multi-sport activities for very young children. The UK childhood obesity epidemic means it’s critical for children to start sports from a very early age. We also know that childhood obesity is most prevalent in deprived areas so we offer free places for families who might struggle to afford them.”

Kids getting certificates after the class at Little BeanzAs someone who always felt awkward around team sports at school, I’m keen for my daughter to have a more positive introduction to them and I’m sure Little Beanz will make a great start. The club offers a safe, friendly environment for children to get comfortable with sports and discover what activities they like. At our first session I saw a lot of happy faces – it looked like the parents were enjoying it as much as the children! And at only £5 per session it’s a bargain!
